Security Officer – Job Description

  • Social Perceptiveness and Being Able to Anticipate — Being aware of others’ reactions and understanding why they react as they do, even being able to anticipate and prevent hostilities or violence.
  • Active Listening – Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.  Questioning as appropriate to insure that the communication(s) are through, accurate and completely understood.
  • Speaking and Interpersonal Skills — Talking to others with dignity and respect to convey information effectively; and in such a way that helps put people at ease so as not to provoke or in any way heighten a tense or hostile situation.
  • Critical Thinking and Deductive Reasoning — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.  And the ability to apply general rules and guidelines to specific issues or problems to produce solutions that make sense and are safe for persons and property involved.
  • Judgment and Decision Making — Considering the relative risks, costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.  Always keeping a “Safety First” awareness.
  • Flexibility and Coordination – Being able to adapt to fast changing situations adjusting actions in relation to others’ actions.
  • Monitoring — Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action
  • Time Management — Managing one’s own time and the time of others in such a way that onsite patrols; and safety and security is achieved as deemed necessary by the client and 1st SSO.
  • Writing – Making through notes of incidents and communicating information and ideas effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the client and 1st SSO.
  • Reading Comprehension — Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
